Pizza, Statue of Liberty and MI New York
By Vineet Anantharaman
Mumbai. Cape Town. Abu Dhabi. New York. The sea. The sand. The hustle. The dreams. Our thread gets longer. The #OneFamily gets bigger. We’ve come to America.
You can’t come to New York and not indulge in the local pizza. It’s Mumbai’s Vada Pav equivalent. Introduced to New York somewhere in the early 1900s, this is now the staple. Hand tossed, thin crust, cooked in large iron ovens, it’s the perfect blend-in dish for the countless cafes around town.
Quite similarly, you cannot come to New York and not visit the Statue of Liberty. Symbolising freedom and the abolition of slavery following the American Civil War, this copper statue stands tall in the New York Harbor. At 305ft, giving the tourists the opportunity to go right up to the crown and have a bird’s eye view of the city, it’s become synonymous with the Spirit of New York.
That’s what we want to be. Cricket – finally – is being launched in the United States of America. It’s the start of a revolution. When Kieron Pollard and his troops walk out to mark the start of something historic in the annals of USA cricket, let’s save the date: 13 July, 2023. Let’s mark it in Blue and Gold. With the MI brand of cricket and oneness, let’s make MI New York a part of the city’s DNA.
When Rashid Khan foxes batters in every way possible, Tim David finishes games that were meant to be dead and buried, Trent Boult churns out his magic with the new ball, Kagiso Rabada cranks up the speed gun, Dewald Brevis tonks them onto the roof without bothering to look up, and skipper Kieron Pollard marshals everyone around, try stopping the entire American continent from loving their cricket!
This is MI city. This is MI team. This is MI Family. We are MI New York.
