OUR FIRST MLC WIN! A 105-run thumping set up by Tim and bowlers

The wagon is on track. We are officially marching on, and how. Not only do we have two points against our name, the margin and the extent of our win has ensure MI New York has the best NRR among the six teams. Not every day do you get the opposition all out for 50! Let’s relive ..

Five bowlers used, wickets equally shared

Peak equality this. LAKR were never in the game. Nosthush Kenjige opened the bowling, struck off the third ball itself to trap Martin Guptill LBW, and Kagiso Rabada, from the other end picked up two in one over to reduce them to 2/3. It was a procession after that, with nine of their ten batters ending up in single digits. When skipper Polly got a tickle on the dangerous Andre Russell’s top-edge off a bouncer, the final nail was laid.

Tim doing Tim things

Again, he’s spoiling us. Coming in to bat at number seven and in the 13th over with the team in a spot of bother at 77/5 and none of the batters being able to get going, Tim David couldn’t care less. It was almost as if he was batting on another wicket, against another bowling attack. He took his time at first, picking up five singles off his first seven balls. And then just went wild – ending up with 48 off just 21 balls with four fours and four sixes, lifting MI NY to a strong 155.

Pooran once again plays consolidator

Much like the previous game, the top-order found it tough against the new ball. Dewald Brevis looked in the mood, smashing two fours and a six early on, but fell soon after, as did Shayan Jahangir, Monank Patel and Hammad Azam. It once again was down to Nicholas Pooran to curb his natural instincts and play the situation, rebuild, and rebuild he did. He took his time, played out the tougher bowlers, and was happy to nurdle singles. It was his foundation that Tim exploded off!

So, just like we’d mentally prepared ourselves in our buildup, and just like Mumbai Indians had all those years ago secured their first win in the IPL over the Kolkata Knight Riders, MI New York have repeated history, doing the same over LA Knight Riders. Everything is perfectly in place for an MLC history that’s just as rich as well!

It's great to have you back at MINY, Tristan Luus!

Blue and Gold in South Africa. Blue and Gold in India. And now Blue and Gold in the USA. Ryan Rickelton is here and with his big-hitting and smart keeping, will play a major role in MI New York defending their crown going into MLC 2026. As someone who topped the run-scoring charts in the 2017-18 season of the domestic 3-day cup, Ryan Rickelton has come up the South African ranks through the grind of First Class cricket. Over the last two years, he moved into an opening role at MI Cape Town, where he excelled, and since, has become a consistent presence in all three formats for the Proteas. You don’t need to look very far to see what he’s capable of. In the first match of IPL 2026, he tore apart the bowling to smash a 43-ball 81 to help Mumbai Indians chase down their highest total in the history of the tournament. Oh, we’re going to love having him here. Welcome to New York, Ryano! ******Coming in next into the New York Blue and Gold is Corbin Bosch, fellow Protea, who, much like Ryan, is with the #OneFamily in Cape Town and Mumbai. A gun all-rounder, who bowls quick, has a bunch of variations at the death, and is a kew lower-order big-hitter, Corbin is here to conquer America.******Tristan Luus makes this a South African trio, with the double of donning the Blue and Gold in Cape Town as well as New York. He's no newbie here, having been with the team during the 2025 MLC triumph. Having idolized and moulded his bowling action around Dale Steyn, this 20-year-old is one to watch out for. It's great having you back, Tristan! The rest of the overseas signings will follow.
