Say hello to MI New York’s picks at the Major League Cricket draft ahead of the 2025 season. We’ve got a nice mix of youth and experience to join our stellar retained players. Let’s meet them: * Agni Chopra: A stylish left-handed batter who holds the unique record for scoring four centuries in his first four First Class matches, a feat he achieved with Mizoram in the 2023-24 season of the Ranji Trophy. This Detroit-born run-machine boasts of a First Class average of 94.94! * Kunwarjeet Singh: Playing for the Baltimore Royals in Minor Cricket League, Kunwarjeet Singh, is a big-hitting left-handed middle-order batter. * Sharad Lumba: An experienced right-handed batter who’s played a large part of his cricket for Punjab. He’s no stranger to the #OneFamily, having been part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the 2018 IPL season. * Tajinder Singh: An off-spinner who doubles up as a useful lower-order hitter, Tajinder Singh too has had a taste of the #OneFamily during his stint with Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL season. First Class cricket with Rajasthan in the Indian domestic circuit and two seasons with the San Francisco Unicorns are on his playing CV. 

After the domestic players, it’s time for the overseas retentions to be announced. Although it was a lovely run over the last two years, moments like these leave us with mixed feelings. 24 hours have passed. It hurts. There was hope of us pulling off a 2023 after our come-from-behind qualification into the play-offs. There was hope of a turnaround. It wasn’t to be. MLC 2024 ended in disappointment. It started off in emphatic style at Morrisville, in a repeat clash last year’s final against Seattle Orcas, with a repeat of the result too. It went on to a DLS-inflicted disappointment. Then came more rain. We moved to Texas. But whether it was Rashid Khan adding feather after feather to his already-decorated hat with his stellar performances with both bat and ball, or it was Nicholas Pooran shedding his natural attacking strokeplay for a measured clutch knock in the must-win last league game against LA Knight Riders, or it was Kieron Pollard rolling back the years with his 6,6,6 to seal the game, or it was Nosthush Kenjige’s superb opening burst against San Francisco Unicorns, or Monank Patel’s mature knocks against Texas Super Kings, or it was debutant Heath Richards nearly pulling off a last-over miracle, there certainly have been enough memories for us to celebrate. Let’s give it some time. When the disappointment withers, what will remain is pride, the pride we have in this side. This is MI city, this is MI team, we are MI New York.
