MINYvWF report: No, no. Can we put this game behind us quickly, please?
By MI New York Media
Okay, can we tune ourselves to believe this never happened? It was just one of those days where things didn’t click. An off-day with the new ball, an off-day with the bat. Let’s quickly brush this behind us and move on.
The batting wobble
0/1, 9/2, 13/3, 13/4, 25/5, 25/6. It wasn’t an ideal start for us with the bat with the Washington Freedom pacers getting the ball to nip around. And sadly, that was it for us. A pretty tough defeat, with our net run-rate taking a dent too, but let’s not get too worried. We were in a very similar situation last year as well, and found a way to get on a winning roll. There’s no reason 2024 can’t be similar..
Sharp death bowling to restrict Freedom
At 105/1 in the 12th over, with Travis Head and Andries Gous going strong, Washington looked well on track for a 200+ total. But Rashid Khan, with a couple of wickets, Romario Shepherd, and Kieron Pollard pulled things back rather well, mixing up the pace with the older ball, to keep them down to 182/5 in their 20 overs.
What’s next then?
Well, we don’t have time to brood over this. The next game is under 48 hours away, and it’s a game against San Francisco United, a team we haven’t beaten yet in this tournament. Do we really need any more motivation as we head into the must-win zone?
