MINY and MLC 2025 – Everything you need to know

America, the cricket carnival is here!

Bigger, better, fancies, more awaited. The third season of cricket’s USA party is here, the Cognizant Major League Cricket, and MI New York cannot wait to repeat 2023 and paint America in our Blue and Gold! Excited much? Here’s everything you need to know ..

Have the festivities come early this year?

Oh yes, yes. Barely a week after the IPL, the #OneFamily is back in action. The MLC, a July-August affair over the last two seasons, is now set to make its debut in June.

Great, tell me what’s new with MI New York?

Let’s start with the top: Nicholas Pooran is our new skipper. Fresh off a stellar IPL stint, he’s at the peak of his powers, and he’s all set to lead from the front. We also have Quinton de Kock, someone who’s won two trophies with the Blue and Gold of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL coming into our mix. George Linde, fresh off title-winning stints at MI Cape Town is here as well. Michael Bracewell and Naveen-ul-Haq are coming in on the back of some red-hot form. Tajinder Singh, with Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL squad and Agni Chopra, a record-maker in the Indian domestic circuit, headline our new local signings.

Match 1 | MINYvTSK preview: Two iconic teams, one epic rivalry!

Let’s. Get. Started. Blue vs Yellow is really something else. Two large fan bases, two teams with history that goes way back, two proud cricketing franchises. We’re all set for a red-hot start to our 2025 campaign. MI New York are here to repeat their 2023 heroics. Nicholas Pooran is all set to take over the captain’s hat. He’s coming in fresh off a dream IPL season, where he smashed over 500 runs and a record 40 sixes. He’s got fond memories of being captain, having smashed perhaps his best T20 innings – 137* - in our season-winning final. We also have a bit of avenging to take care of. TSK were the team that ended our 2024 season in the playoffs. It’s time to put that behind us and what better way to kickstart 2025 than with a W against them in the first game itself.  What: MI New York vs Texas Super Kings When: June 13, 2025 (18:00 local time) | June 14, 2025 (06:30 IST)Where: Oakland Coliseum, CAWhat to expect: What’s new is the venue – the Oakland Coliseum, a baseball stadium with a drop-in pitch. The dimensions, the conditions, are all set to be a surprise. And that’s what makes it all the more exciting.

Aye Aye Captain, Nicky P

Our hero, our ledge, our skipper! Nicholas Pooran – the 29-year-old pocket dynamite, aka the MINY superstar – has been named the MI New York captain ahead of the 2025 season of the Cognizant Major League Cricket. This left-handed wicket-keeper batter is one of the world’s most feared batters going around. He hit the most sixes (170) across all T20s in 2024 and followed it up with a strong IPL 2025, breaching the 500-run mark in a season for the first time and smashing 40 sixes in the season - the most sixes by any batter in an IPL edition.At the peak of his powers currently, he’s all set to take us to greater glories under his leadership. He was the highest run-scorer in the 2023 MLC season with 388 runs under his belt. You really don't need to look beyond his 137* at the MLC Final to know that. Can’t wait to relive the same in 2025, Nicky!

It perfectly symbolizes the brand of cricket that we are known for. It’s a year where MI Cape Town and the Mumbai Indians women’s team were crowned champions.
